Good news is hard to keep a secret, and we are thrilled to announce our new partnership with Georgia Non-Profit Organization, Cheers for Good, Inc., a 501(c)(3).
Founded in 2019, Cheers for Good celebrates the idea of re-purposing surplus items from events in order to spread cheer and hope to the Atlanta community. They accept donations of food and floral from all events, weddings and corporate. Their goal is to serve the homeless communities of Atlanta as well as the elderly in nursing homes in and around the city.
After spending the last 12 years in the wedding industry, we have been exposed to the aftermath most do not see after weddings. From food to florals, the average 6 hour wedding can leave a significant amount of product still usable beyond the event.
From the cocktail hour hors d’oeuvres and your multi-course dinner to the late-night snack spread, there are a lot of opportunities to eat during a wedding. While most caterers do their best to minimize waste in such a setting, it’s inevitable that some of their calculations will differ from consumption and at least some food will be left uneaten. So, although the best thing you can do to deal with food waste at your wedding is work with your caterer to avoid having too much excess, it’s still a good idea to have a plan in place for any reception leftovers. That’s where Cheers for Good, Inc. comes in. Their staff will meet at the end of the event to take any excess food to the local Atlanta homeless shelters that house thousands of people each day.
While we can’t speak more for the food, we are thrilled to have a new home for our florals beyond the wedding night. Our partnership with Cheers for Good will allow us to donate nearly $50,000 in florals during the month of June alone to help spread joy to places like Children’s Heatlhcare of Atlanta and other Atlanta area nursing homes.
